General Electric, Sharp Recall GE Air Conditioning and
Heating Units Due to Fire Hazard
Toronto, ON
– The Electrical Safety Authority is notifying the public that
General Electric (“GE”) has announced a voluntary corrective action pro-
gram with respect to the following consumer product.

Air Conditioners and Heaters.
Units
Approximately 3,600 in Canada.
Manufacturer
Sharp Corporation of Japan
Canadian Distributor
Gordon R. Williams Corporation (“Williams”)
Hazard
An electrical component in the heating system can fail, posing a fire hazard
to consumers.
Incidents/Injuries
In Canada, GE has received one report involving smoke and/or fire with
Affected Products. There have also been three reported incidents in the
U.S.. In two of the reported incidents, fire extended beyond the unit result-
ing in property damage. No injuries have been reported.
Description/Models
This recall involves GE Packaged Terminal Air Conditioners and packaged
terminal heat pumps (“PTACs”) manufactured between approximately Jan-
uary 2010 and March 2011. The Product is most often used in apartment
buildings and commercial space. The GE logo is affixed to the control panel
door. Serial and model numbers are printed on the rating plate. Consum-
ers will need to remove the front panel to locate the rating plate. Product
bearing the following model and serial numbers are included in this recall:

Consumers should confirm whether they have one of the impacted units by
checking the model number, as well as matching both the model number
and serial numbers provided.

Williams and authorized representatives and HVAC distributors installers,
and contractors nationwide.
When was distributed
The Affected Units were sold in Canada from approximately April 1, 2010
through April 30, 2011.

Remedy
Consumers should immediately stop using the Product in heat mode and
contact Williams to schedule a free repair.
